PAOLO ICARO | Senzamargine. Passaggi nell’arte italiana a cavallo del millennio | TALK

The story of the vital, independent and original research of ten great artists who were Italian or active in Italy, a point of reference for successive generations of artists.

From Carla Accardi to Paolo Icaro, from Jannis Kounellis to Mario Schifano, ten masters of contemporary art were the protagonists at MAXXI in Rome of the exhibition “Senzamargine. Passaggi nell’arte italiana a cavallo del millennio”, an original overview of the artistic geography between the 20th and 21st centuries, placed under the sign of plurality and difference.

Through essays by international critics and scholars, the volume offers an in-depth introduction to the work of the ten artists, proposing new readings and insights useful for a rewriting of the art canon of recent decades. In the background is the need for a new narrative of the Italian experience, even beyond its territorial continuity, capable of highlighting within it the coexistence of individual traditions, lines and vectors that cannot be reduced to a common matrix or “identity.”
