From 13 December 2023 to 21 April 2024, Fondazione Memmo presents La Biblioteca del Mondo, the ninth edition of Conversation Piece. This annual cycle of exhibitions is curated by Marcello Smarrelli and aims to provide an overview of Italian and foreign artists who choose Rome as their place of residence, research, and work. The exhibition’s title directly references Umberto Eco and the documentary of the same name by Davide Ferrario (2022). The documentary recounts the legendary library of the deceased intellectual, to which Eco himself assigned the function of being a repository of the memory of humanity, a function that is now shared by libraries all over the world.
The exhibition aims to present the ‘library’ as a repository of universal culture and collective imagination through a nucleus of works arranged in a path that starts from the façade of Palazzo Ruspoli and continues in the courtyard and the Scuderie.
