“Freeing the Voices” is an exhibition about being in tune with the world. The voice is a tool for healing, connection and resistance – for speaking out. It is also about listening to ourselves and to others, human and non-human voices. Just as we express ourselves with our voices, listening implies care and attention to the other – but also obedience to authority. Our voices are grounded, yet at the same time related to many different contexts.
Although there is no such thing as our own authentic voice, the liberation of our individual and collective voice is the focus of the works exhibited here. Liberating our voices does not mean finding a self-hood to which our voice perfectly corresponds. What we really liberate with the voice is our relationship to the world. |
